PFAS Bioaccumulation in Crocodilians
PFAS (Perfluoroalkyl substances) have been allowed to enter the environment through many vectors and are known to bioaccumulate in the environment.
Croc & Co Intl. is partnering on a project investigating bioaccumulation in long lived apex predator, Crocodylus porosus, and vectors for shedding in the species through analysis of blood serum and hatchling transmission.
The coastal silica dune lake environments in Australia, have been largely discounted from any significant population of Saltwater Crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) or contributing to the overall recruitment and population growth, due to their extremely low nutrient levels.
Croc and Co Intl. have been engaged to assist with a telemetry and mark recapture study of crocodiles in these areas to understand their habitat usage, long term survival, and contribution to the wider population.
